7-stringed viol after Bertrand

7-stringed bass viol and violone

The original for our 7-stringed model is an instrument by Nicolas Bertrand which is dated 1726. It can be found in the famous Paris collection.

This is the only instrument in our Maestro-Serie that has no rosette! The rosette was typical for viols made in the English tradition and not common in France. This didn’t stop us to decorate the instrument - like all our Maestro-instruments - with an inlay in the back. And also the other details are the same: a body made from flamed maple (sycamore), the top from fine spruce, boxwood pegs, tail piece and fingerboard framed with contrasting timbers and a broken scroll. String length and body length are approx. 72cm, the length over all
ca. 120cm.

A student model of this instrument is deliverable on request!

As we don´t have any good photos of the Violone yet all we can do is to give you some basic information: It´s a copy after Ernst Busch (original can be seen in the Germanisches Museum in Nuremburg), 6-stringed in D (1 octave lower than our bass-viol). For any further information please contact us!
