7-stringed bass viol

The original for our 7-stringed model is an instrument by Nicolas Bertrand which is dated 1726. It can be found in the famous Paris collection.

This is the only instrument in our Maestro-Serie that has no rosette! The rosette was typical for viols made in the English tradition and not common in France. This didn’t stop us to decorate the instrument - like all our Maestro-instruments - with an inlay in the back. Some other details are also similar: a body made from flamed maple (sycamore), the top from fine spruce, boxwood pegs, tail piece and fingerboard framed with contrasting timbers and a broken scroll. String length and body length are approx. 72cm, the length over all ca. 120cm.
